Eye Examinations - private and NHS
Allow 25 to 30 minutes for your appointment. Your optometrist will take the time to carefully assess your vision needs and prescription before advising you if glasses are needed and suggesting suitable frame and lens types before handing you over to an experienced dispensing optician or optical assistant. The health of your eyes will also be checked, and further tests including those for glaucoma will be performed if necessary. Your optometrist may also suggest the option of wearing contact lenses to you, but don't be afraid to ask if you are suitable if you are interested in trying them!
Contact Lens Fitting and Aftercare
We generally advise our patients to have their contact lenses checked every 6 to 12 months, depending on lens type and wearing schedule. Modern lens materials are much more comfortable and better for the health of your eyes, but regular check ups can prevent problems becoming more serious.
Retinal Photography the advanced new method of checking your eye health
We have installed a state-of-the-art Topcon Digital Retinal Camera at our Stokesley practice. This will allow us to take photographs of the back of your eye (the retina), and enable us to carry out a far more detailed examination than was previously possible.
The image we take is similar to the one shown here, and our experienced optometrists can use this photo to diagnose the health and condition of your eyes.

Retinal screening can check for: Glaucoma, Diabetes, Cataracts, age related Macular Degeneration and others ...
This retinal examination is comfortable and the image is captured in just seconds using flash photography - nothing touches your eyes.
We will then have a permanent and accurate record of the condition of our eyes stored on our computer, allowing us to compare images and look for any changes, year on year - which could prove to be invaluble in monitoring your eye health.
We're sure that you can see the benefits of this important new service - a service that is available to everyone. We make a small additional charge for this worthwhile examination which is not normally available under the NHS funded standard sight test.
